What is the purpose of RTI?
The purpose of Bugg’s RTI is to identify students that are not meeting expected growth in any/all areas (i.e. emotional, academic, social, behavioral, physical, etc.) and equip the adults in his/her life with strategies to support progress in meeting or exceeding grade level benchmarks and/or developmental levels. Student Support Team is a regular educational fuction. RTI provides a place to discuss student concerns in a supportive, open environment. It is dynamic, interactive, and controlled at the building level. At the core of RTI, is the atmosphere of support and collegiality for classroom teachers, family members and colleagues to generate strategies that facilitate student success in the classroom. The bottom line is student success. To generate strategies, RTI uses a systematic process. This process provides the RTI members with a structure for sharing their expertise and exploring strategies for students. Team members work collaboratively to develop effective interventions and strategies for students experiencing behavior and academic problems. RTI looks at the whole child, taking a holistic approach and focusing on the students’ strength.
