How does coaching support common core instruction?
COACHING in the CLASSROOM with TEACHERS
(Four hours per week)
This can be team teaching, modeling, observing to provide feedback, covering to allow teachers to watch each other, and implementing the coaching cycle.
Purpose is to ensure CONSISTENT INSTRUCTION
PLANNING with the GRADE LEVEL
(Four hours per week)
This can be in the form of PLT meetings, Kid Talk, conferencing with individual teachers, helping teachers prepare for RTI, and designing assessments.
Purpose is to assist IMPLEMENTATION OF SYSTEMS
IMPACT TIME WITH STUDENTS
(Four hours per week)
The coach can provide push in, pull out, individual tutoring, Tier II instruction, and be an additional teacher for IMPACT TIME. The group of students should be seen consistently.
Purpose is to provide DIFFERENTATION for students.
PLT with DISTRICT, STATE and COACH TEAM
(Four hours per week)
This time consistsof weekly coaches meeting, all district meetings, and meeting with administration.
Purpose to be A FILTER of INITIATIVES
Each grade level will have a coach for 16 hours a week. The table below shows the purpose, division of time and suggested activities.
A coach is NOT
· An evaluator. The administrators do evaluations not Coaches.
· A teacher assistant. The coaches are leaders in curriculum.
· The lead teacher. You team will continue to have a leader to facilitate the business of your team.
· An easy job. Lots of expectations and after hours will be expected from the Coaches.
