School-wide Fieldtrip
Our philosophy of school wide field trips at Bugg Elementary is that every student is able to go on the field trips that their classrooms are attending. Never should a child miss out on a field trip due to finances. Each and every child is able to experience learning outside of the classroom on a field trip with their teachers.
Intrinsic vs Extrinsic
At Bugg, we are moving towards students working intrinsically for the betterment of themselves as well as others. Intrinsic rewards create sustainable behavior changes in the Bugg community. The process for modeling student behavior is to progressively move our students from extrinsic model to intrinsic.

Suspension
At Bugg, we want to ensure learning for all of our students. If there is a behavior incident that occurs, we would like to handle the situation individually. Suspension is reserved as a punishment but does not fix the behavior. Instead of the student having to miss out on a day of learning, we would like to invite the parent to sit in on learning to help their child with their behavior. Staff and parents should communicate and work together to discipline and change the behavior. We will also follow board procedures as stated in http://www.wcpss.net/policy-files/series/policies/print-friendly/6500-bp.html
Discipline vs punishment
Students at Bugg Elementary need to have all expectations taught before receiving a consequence for their action. Often times, students do not know the procedure and are given a punishment as a result of their behavior. Each and every classroom should align their teaching practices with Harry Wong’s The First Ten Days of School.
